Behind the Scenes: Black Oak & Dragonfly Cabins Take Shape

Tucked into the Sierra Foothills, Reverie Retreat has always been about creating space to slow down, reconnect, and experience the landscape in a deeper way. This season, that vision is taking on new shape as construction moves forward on two additional cabins — Black Oak and Dragonfly — along with site improvements that will make each guest’s arrival and stay more seamless.

Black Oak & Dragonfly: Taking Form

Both cabins have moved well beyond their foundations. With walls, roofs, siding, windows, and doors now complete, each structure has begun to reveal its character. Electrical and plumbing are in place, and cabinetry and flooring have arrived, ready for installation. For the exterior paint, we’ve chosen colors that echo the surrounding landscape while adding warmth and depth.

Black Oak: Designed to Welcome All

Black Oak is being created as a fully ADA-accessible cabin, ensuring that every guest can enjoy its comfort and connection to the landscape. Inside, the walls will be finished in a muted green drawn from the surrounding forest that sets a calm, grounded tone.

The bathroom will pair functionality with character. Tile will cover the floor and walls, its cool, calm tones adding depth to the space. Outdoors, the cabin will feature a custom-designed soaking tub on a private patio — a focal point meant for relaxation, reflection, and immersion in the natural setting.

Dragonfly: Elevated Perspective

Perched on a newly completed deck frame, Dragonfly already offers an unexpected view of the retreat’s natural surroundings — a perspective that feels both expansive and intimate. Inside, the color palette has been chosen to echo that balance. The bathroom will be a design highlight, featuring a bold turquoise-and-green pattern with an art-deco floral motif that brings both energy and playfulness to the space.

Sitewide Enhancements

We are investing in infrastructure that supports both beauty and practicality. The driveway is now widened to 20 feet, and a new parking area can accommodate 20+ vehicles. At the same time, we’ve integrated firesafe improvements into this phase of work, ensuring that the retreat is as resilient as it is welcoming.

What’s Next

The next phase of work will shift from structure to atmosphere — finishing the interiors and landscaping in ways that strengthen the connection between design and setting.  Insulation and drywall will soon give form to the rooms, followed by the installation of cabinetry, doors, tile, and flooring that bring warmth and character inside.

Outdoors, Dragonfly’s deck and Black Oak’s concrete patio will be completed, creating spaces designed for lingering mornings and starlit evenings. The drive and parking areas will be finished with gravel, making arrival smooth and seamless. Finally, we’ll introduce new trees and landscaping to soften the lines of construction and reestablish a sense of balance — ensuring that each cabin feels not only rooted here, but a part of the forest itself.

As these final layers come into place, each step brings us closer to re-opening Reverie Retreat for our guests. We look forward to welcoming you into these new spaces — whether you’re planning a romantic escape with your partner, a babymoon getaway, a restorative nature retreat, or all of the above.
