Trinidad Perfume

Mid-September is the peak of pepper season for us, and the 15+ plants I put in the ground back in May are now weighted down with beautiful peppers and chiles in all shapes, sizes and colors.

We have purple jalapeƱos…

Yellow-green Jalor chiles…

Green-on-their-way-to-red California Wonder bell peppers…

Thai chiles…

Pasilla peppers…

Padrons…

And my favorite this year: Trinidad Perfume.

The Trinidad Perfumes are habanero look-alikes. They have the appearance and flavor of a habanero, without the heat. I love the way the orange tinkle-bells dangle underneath the plants, but I love the way they taste even more. Iā€™ve been experimenting with them for the past few weeks and so far my favorite way to prepare them is stuffed with manchego, topped with a drizzle of olive oil and a grind of sea salt, and roasted in a 450 degree oven for ten minutes.

Iā€™ve never seen these peppers at the farmers market so if youā€™d like to experience them, you will just have to come to an event at Reverie during pepper season next year.
